East West is about taking the best from two stunning cuisines and bringing them together in a fusion food love story.
It sprang from founder Devinder Singh’s passion for proper pizza gained from travels with his family in southern Italy, combined with a lifetime’s immersion in the cuisine of Northern India.
Drawing inspiration from the Barese pizza doughs prepared in and around Puglia, we created a thinner, crispier base than the Neapolitan style you find in most pizza places in the UK. It gives a lighter, more gentle experience and provides a great stage for the toppings – and the toppings we’re talking about really deserve a stage.
Traditional Indian recipes passed down for generations were the starting point for the Eastern flavours – the pickling spices of achari dishes, richly satisfying butter chicken from Delhi, vibrant northern masalas and the tang of Punjabi spices. The West brought spicy nduja, creamy buffalo mozzarella and Taleggio goats cheeses, sun-soaked tomatoes and peppers and the finest olive oils.
Our first experiments gave us a beautiful problem – far too many delicious combinations of toppings to fit on any menu. It took months to whittle them down, to get to a range of pizzas which balance the unique flavours of their twinned origins with the easy-going tastiness we were looking for.
All this is before we got to creating our small plates, fusion brunch dishes and unique bespoke cocktails – all of which have been made with the same passion, care and as our pizza. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating this menu for you
