Growing up with the rich culinary history of the Punjab, I’ve been obsessed with food for as long as I can remember.
But it wasn’t until a food-fuelled trip to Puglia in 2019 that my wife and I had an epiphany - why not combine the bold flavours of our heritage with the Italian comfort food our family loves? Once I began experimenting with this fusion, I knew I had to share this with our community.
So, I said goodbye to my career in engineering and we got to work on turning this dream into a reality.
Fast forward to our opening in 2020, just before the lockdown, and we had found a home for East West in Tufnell Park. The pandemic didn’t exactly set us off to the best start, with customers not warming to the concept as immediately as we’d hoped, but we slowly won them over with our passion, quality ingredients and most importantly, our incredible flavours.
Our presence sky-rocketed in 2021 when we were invited to take part in the BBC’s Britain’s Best Takeaways show, and after a fierce culinary battle, we took home the crown as Best Pizza Takeaway in the country! Suddenly, we had curious diners lining up to try our legendary food.
Now in 2025, we’re still serving up our exciting menu of Neapolitan-style pizzas with vibrant Indian sauces and toppings alongside a selection of innovative small plates that I personally can’t get enough of. This is only elevated further by working with quality local suppliers to ensure that we source the best, freshest ingredients.
While the menu sometimes changes, our pizza dough remains the same. We still make it in the traditional Neapolitan style with a minimum of 48-hour proof. We use authentic Caputo Rosso flour for a longer proof time and a dough body to stand up to both our traditional and unconventional range of toppings.
As well as the fusion cuisine of East West, we also introduced a Punjabi lunch menu at the weekends, showcasing the kind of dishes we ate at home in Punjab - a home away from home here in London.
Bon appetito!
